The “Monkey Playground” — affectionately known as the Affenspielplatz — is one of Vienna’s most original playgrounds and is located in the Prater area. Its name comes from the climbing frames and play equipment that make kids feel like little monkeys swinging through the jungle. The playground is best for children roughly 3 to 12 years old who enjoy active climbing, swinging, and balancing. There are bars, rope structures, rope bridges, and a large sand area for younger visitors. The paths leading to it are flat and stroller-friendly, so families with babies can also stop by easily. The playground is surrounded by trees that provide pleasant shade in summer. Parents find plenty of benches from which to watch their kids. Use of the playground is free and available year-round. Toilets and snack kiosks are nearby. The playground is conveniently reached by the U2 metro and by several tram lines. Because the climbing frames can be challenging, younger children should be supervised closely. Altogether, the Monkey Playground is a fantastic spot for active, energetic kids.
