Esterházy Park in Vienna’s 6th district (Mariahilf) is a lively city park tucked just behind the famous Mariahilfer Straße shopping street. The park is best known for its striking WWII flak tower, which today houses the “Haus des Meeres” aquarium. The playground in the park is well equipped and aimed at children roughly 2 to 12 years old. It features swings, slides, a large sandbox, climbing frames, and an area with themed play equipment. The paths are flat, paved, and stroller-friendly. The park is fenced, giving parents added peace of mind with smaller children. There are plenty of benches and shade trees around. Entry to the park and the playground is completely free. Visiting the adjacent Haus des Meeres aquarium does require a paid ticket — but it’s worth it for the chance to see sharks, snakes, crocodiles, and even tropical birds. Esterházy Park is very easy to reach by metro (U3 Neubaugasse) and tram (lines 5, 6, 18). After play time, the family can stroll along Mariahilfer Straße, grab an ice cream, or stop in one of the many cafés. Overall, Esterházy Park is an excellent choice for a family outing in the middle of Vienna.
